John Hill Jailed for 15 Years After Targeting Young Girl

Serial Sex Offender Jailed for Targeting Young Girl

A serial sex offender who targeted a young girl has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. John Hill, 58, of Malm Street, Hull, was convicted by a jury of five offences of indecent assault and four offences of indecency with a child. The court heard how Hill's actions left the victim struggling with "trauma" and the "immense" impact of her ordeal. She has faced numerous obstacles as a result of the abuse, which has taken its toll over the years.

During the trial, mitigating solicitor Dale Brook stated that Hill intimately touched the girl and told her she was a good girl. The victim testified that she believed Hill was grooming her and building up to wider sexual activity, and that more serious sexual behaviour did eventually take place. The victim ultimately contacted the police, leading to Hill's arrest. However, he denied any sexual abuse, claiming he didn't know the girl and had no recollection of her.

In a powerful victim impact statement, the woman described the lasting trauma she continues to endure. She stated that she is dealing with the consequences of the abuse for the rest of her life and that Hill will always be remembered as the face of her abuser.

Judge Richard Woolfall sentenced Hill to 15 years in prison, followed by one year on extended licence. He was also designated an offender of particular concern.
