Man Jailed for Sexual Assaults on Sleeping Women
Justin Lovell, 25, was sentenced to seven years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday for the rape of two victims and the sexual assault of another. The offenses occurred at various addresses across Edinburgh.
Police began investigating Lovell after a 19-year-old woman reported waking up to an attack following a party in January 2015. Further investigations revealed additional victims who had experienced similar assaults while asleep after attending parties.
Lovell was detained on July 29th and convicted last month.
Detective Constable Richard Johnston from the Public Protection Unit at Fettes Police Station stated: "I would like to express my gratitude to the women who came forward to report these offenses. Their bravery and unwavering support during our inquiries undoubtedly led to Lovell's conviction, ensuring he can no longer harm women while serving his sentence."
Johnston continued, "Justin Lovell has demonstrated predatory behavior, targeting women at their most vulnerable and causing significant trauma. He will now face the consequences of his actions, spending several years in prison. We want to assure all survivors of sexual offenses that their reports will be taken seriously. We will conduct thorough investigations and work closely with the Crown Office to bring perpetrators to justice and safeguard our communities."
