Registered Sex Offender Jailed for Breaching Sexual Harm Prevention Order

Kevin Chaffey, 49, of Meryon Road in Alresford, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).

Chaffey was previously convicted in April 2022 for the improper importation of indecent or obscene articles, making and possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children, and possessing extreme pornographic images. He received a 24-month suspended prison sentence and a ten-year SHPO, which prohibited him from having mobile devices without registering them with the police.

In September 2022, officers discovered an unregistered mobile phone at Chaffey's residence. He subsequently pleaded guilty to breaching the SHPO at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, 21 October 2022.

PC Gemma Southcott, from the Internet Child Abuse Team, stated, "Chaffey is a danger to children and the wider public, as demonstrated by his complete disregard for the SHPO imposed by the courts. These orders are put in place to restrict the activities of sex offenders and protect our communities."

"Individuals like Chaffey who deliberately ignore these requirements are rightfully sent to prison. We take the management of sex offenders incredibly seriously and invest significant resources in this effort to ensure public safety," Southcott added. "This case reaffirms our commitment to monitoring dangerous individuals in the community and ensuring they are dealt with robustly when they fail to comply with the required measures."
