Predatory Paedophile Jailed for Sexually Abusing Child Under His Care

A 66-year-old man, Kevin Griffiths, from Frodsham, Cheshire, has been jailed for sexually abusing a child he was supposed to be babysitting. Detectives described his crimes as "every parent's worst nightmare."

Griffiths was found guilty following a trial at Chester Crown Court after repeatedly abusing the child over a two-year period in the 1990s. He would exploit his position of trust, claiming to be taking the child to bed to read a story, only to sexually abuse them in the bedroom.

Detective Constable Beth Colbourne, who led the investigation, stated: "What Griffiths did was every parent's worst nightmare. He was trusted to look after the victim, but instead of caring for them he preyed on their vulnerability."

She continued, "It is a testament to the strength, bravery and determination of the victim in this case that we have been able to bring Griffiths to justice, more than 30 years since the offences occurred. I hope that the conclusion of this case will provide them with some closure and help them with their recovery."

Detective Constable Colbourne emphasized the seriousness of child sexual assault, urging any victims to come forward regardless of the time elapsed. "We treat all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously, with the wishes and needs of the victim as our main priority, and any allegations will be thoroughly investigated," she concluded.
