A callous rapist who was "on the prowl" outside a Hull nightclub and deliberately targeted a vulnerable woman who was "hammered" after a night out has been jailed for 12 years.

Lazarus Olleh, 38, of Belmont Street, Hull, coaxed the 18-year-old woman into his car within three minutes of approaching her outside the Propaganda nightclub in the early hours of October 29 last year.

Olleh, who had earlier parked nearby to look for a woman to have sex with, was convicted of rape by a jury after a retrial. He denied the charge, but an earlier jury in April had been unable to reach a verdict.

The woman, who was dressed in a schoolgirl uniform with fake blood for a Halloween costume, had been out with a friend and was separated from her when she left the nightclub at about 5.30am.

She was heavily intoxicated and struggling to put on her jacket, sitting alone with her back to a wall when Olleh approached her. He engaged her in conversation before ushering her to his car, his arm around her, and driving away at 5.34am.

Olleh drove her to his friend's flat in Whitefriargate, where he took her to a bedroom and raped her. The woman had little memory of the incident, only waking up to realize someone had been having sex with her.

DNA tests later confirmed that Olleh was responsible. The woman was awoken by a second man and helped from the bed. Olleh and the woman walked to the car, followed by his friend. Olleh asked her for her phone number, and she gave a false number.

Olleh was eventually traced after police made inquiries at his friend's flat. When he was told the police were looking for him, he contacted them and gave mainly no comment replies to questions.

During sentencing, Judge Mark Bury said that Olleh had targeted a vulnerable woman who was too drunk and too tired to consent. "You were on the prowl outside Propaganda and you found exactly what you were looking for in her," the judge said.

Olleh was sentenced to 12 years in prison and will have to register as a sex offender for life. He will also be deported to Nigeria at the end of his sentence.
