St Helens man jailed for rape.

Despicable Rapist Sentenced to 22 Years

Lee Cunliffe, 37, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison, plus five years on extended license, for a series of heinous crimes including rape, assault by penetration, and false imprisonment. Cunliffe, from St Helens, was found guilty on November 10th after denying the charges.

Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan expressed relief and satisfaction at the sentencing, stating: "We share the victim's relief and satisfaction that Cunliffe has been dealt with by the courts. While no sentence can repair the pain and suffering Cunliffe has caused to his victim, I hope that he will reflect on his despicable actions while behind bars."

Cunliffe's refusal to admit his guilt forced his victim to relive her ordeal during the trial. Inspector Al-Ramadhan commended the victim's courage and strength in coming forward: "To be a victim of such offences, and then go through the additional stress of a court case, is extremely tough and she will continue to be supported by specially trained officers."

This case highlights the devastating impact of sexual violence and the importance of supporting survivors. The lengthy sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such crimes and the commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.
