Nuneaton Man Sentenced for Indecent Exposure, Assault, and Theft
A Nuneaton man has been sentenced to 34 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to five offenses, including indecent exposure and assaulting a police officer. Luke Armes, 34, of Wood Street, Nuneaton, appeared at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Monday, August 1.
The charges stemmed from an incident on July 29, where Armes allegedly climbed over the fence of his neighbor's garden, pulled down his trousers and boxers, and danced around naked. He refused to leave for 10 minutes, causing distress to his neighbor, and eventually stole a bag of her clothes before leaving.
Armes then went to the Tesco car park in Nuneaton where he allegedly punched a man, attempted to take the man's child from a car, and tried to steal the car keys. He reportedly exposed himself again to a car full of children in the car park.
When Warwickshire Police arrived at the scene, Armes allegedly headbutted an officer twice, injuring his lip and forehead. This was not the first time Armes had assaulted an emergency worker, as he has a record of 105 previous convictions, including four assaults on emergency workers.
Armes initially pleaded not guilty to all charges, but later changed his plea after being informed he would be remanded in custody until trial. His lawyer argued that Armes has an alcohol problem and the events were a "moment of madness."
After pleading guilty, Armes was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to his neighbor and the children he exposed himself to, and £50 to the police officer he assaulted.
