Sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl.
Noor Ibrahim, an asylum seeker from Sudan, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Hull city center.
The incident occurred late at night when Ibrahim approached the girl and asked her where she had been. After she told him she was waiting for her mother, Ibrahim grabbed her and sexually assaulted her.
The victim's mother arrived shortly after the assault and confronted Ibrahim, taking photographs of him on her phone. She asked him, "Have you just grabbed my daughter? You're not going to get away with this."
Ibrahim did not respond and continued walking away. The matter was reported to the police the next day, and Ibrahim was arrested.
In court, Ibrahim admitted to kissing the girl, but denied that it was consensual. He claimed that he thought she was 20 to 25 years old and that she had told him she was 17.
The victim stated that the incident had upset her and made her feel uncomfortable, saying, "She feels scared and unsafe now."
During the sentencing, the court heard that Ibrahim had no prior convictions in the UK and had been living there for two years. He had been drinking at the time of the assault and showed remorse for his actions.
Recorder David Gordon, presiding over the case, reduced Ibrahim's sentence from one year to 10 months, taking into account his early guilty plea. However, he also emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the potential for future harm.
"This offence was extremely upsetting for that young girl, who in law is regarded as a child," Recorder Gordon said. "She said this incident upset her and made her uncomfortable and has left her feeling scared and unsafe. This offence has had a serious detrimental effect on the complainant."
"You are assessed as posing a high risk of serious harm to the public, particularly females. You are an asylum seeker in this country. The victim was particularly vulnerable, a lone female, 16, on her own in Hull city centre late at night. You specifically targeted a vulnerable victim."
In addition to his prison sentence, Ibrahim was given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
