Mahmut Icer Jailed for Serious Sexual Abuse of Schoolgirl

Mahmut Icer, a Welsh father, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the serious sexual abuse of a schoolgirl.

Icer, from Bryn Street in Ruabon, was convicted by a jury of eight counts, including causing or inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity and penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 16. The offenses spanned approximately 18 months, beginning in 2018.

Judge Rhys Rowlands described Icer's actions as "sordid" and stated that he showed no remorse or understanding of the severity of his crimes. Icer groomed the victim by giving her gifts and money totaling £2,800, encouraging her to send him indecent videos and images of herself. In return, he sent her explicit material. During this period, they engaged in sexual intercourse on multiple occasions, with Icer traveling to England to meet the girl in hotels.

The victim impact statements revealed the devastating consequences of Icer's actions. The girl expressed feelings of hatred towards herself for allowing the abuse to happen, describing herself as trapped and manipulated. Her schoolwork suffered, and her confidence was severely impacted. Her mother also described a change in her daughter's behavior, including significant weight loss and a decline in grades.

In sentencing Icer, Judge Rowlands emphasized the seriousness of his crimes, stating that he had taken advantage of the victim's innocence and provided her with a distorted view of love and relationships.

Icer was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the first offense and seven and a half years for the second, to be served concurrently. He must register as a sex offender indefinitely, is subject to a sexual harm prevention order, and has been barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
