An NHS surgeon convicted of possessing child sexual abuse images

Mansoor Khan, a plastic surgeon who worked at University Hospital Southampton and Salisbury District Hospital, has been convicted of possessing 106 images of child sexual abuse. The images, mostly of boys aged five to seven, were found on Khan's mobile phone and a hard drive.

Khan, 54, admitted to receiving the images from a contact on Snapchat but claimed he acted out of curiosity and had no intention of promoting, sharing, or storing them.

He was charged with three offenses of making and possessing indecent images of a child between December 10, 2020, and August 24, 2021. The images included 31 category A images, the most serious type.

Khan denied the charges but was convicted at Salisbury Crown Court after a five-day trial. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 24, 2024.

During the trial, the prosecution described the category A images as "revolting and abhorrent," highlighting the serious nature of the crime. The court heard that Khan used encrypted sites to communicate with others and repeatedly accessed child pornography using his mobile phone.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) emphasized that Khan's actions fueled the demand for child sexual abuse material. They stated that they continue to pursue offenders like Khan to bring them to justice and protect victims of online child sexual abuse.

Khan, who specialized in reconstructive surgery, breast surgery, body contouring, and "facial rejuvenation," worked at University Hospital Southampton until October 2022. He has since been dismissed by Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
