Driving instructor found guilty of horrific sex attacks
Staffordshire Driving Instructor Convicted of Rape and Sexual Assault of Pupils
Martyn James Rees, 37, has been found guilty of numerous sexual offenses, including rape, sexual activity with a child, sexual assault, and possession of indecent images of children. The offenses took place between 2015 and 2018, targeting victims aged between 14 and 25.
The investigation began after a 14-year-old girl reported being raped by Rees. An examination of his mobile phone revealed indecent images of children and led to the identification of additional victims. Rees pleaded guilty to some charges and was convicted on others at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, March 22.
Rees was arrested on March 8, 2018, following the initial report. He had been operating as a driving instructor but was unable to continue after his arrest. His victims included both pupils and a vulnerable 14-year-old he met by chance.
Detective Inspector Simon Caton from Staffordshire Police's Child Protection and Exploitation Team stated: "Rees has spent years abusing his position as a trusted driving instructor to commit sexual offenses against his pupils. He also sexually assaulted a vulnerable 14-year-old girl, following a chance encounter with her. We encourage anyone who has been a victim of such crimes to come forward and report it. We will listen, and you and your families will be supported by specially-trained detectives and social workers."
Rees has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court at a later date, which is yet to be determined.
