Michael McCue: Ex-Maths Teacher Sexually Abused Pupil Over 40 Years Ago
A former mathematics teacher, Michael McCue, aged 91, has been spared jail despite admitting to sexually abusing a student over four decades ago.
McCue, who taught at the former Page Moss School (later Bowring Community Sports College) in Huyton, Liverpool, was found guilty of indecent assault against multiple students over several decades. Fresh allegations surfaced last year leading to his latest court appearance.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that McCue abused his position of trust as a teacher to sexually assault the victim during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He engaged in inappropriate touching, made suggestive comments, and exploited the student's vulnerability.
The victim bravely spoke out about the abuse, detailing the lasting psychological harm it caused him. He described feeling manipulated and powerless, and how the trauma has led to suicidal thoughts and ongoing struggles.
This is not McCue's first offense. He has a history of convictions for sexual offenses dating back to 2001, including sentences of imprisonment and suspended sentences.
Despite his previous convictions and the severity of the latest charges, Judge Gwyn Jones opted for a suspended sentence due to McCue's age, health issues, and housebound status. He stated that McCue posed less of a risk to the public given his current condition.
McCue was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, ordered to pay £1,000 in court costs, and placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
