Detectives Praise Victim's Bravery in Rapist's 17-Year Sentence

Mihai Savescu, 34, of Chaplin Road, Longton, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of rape at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. Staffordshire Police have commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward and reporting the crimes.

Detective Constable Diane Sproston, from the force's rape and serious sexual offences unit, stated: "Savescu was predatory and manipulative. I'd like to commend the victim who bravely came forward and reported these appalling crimes. She has shown incredible bravery and cooperation throughout the court process."

Sproston added, "I hope the sentence provides some form of closure and comfort knowing Savescu will be behind bars for a long time."

Savescu, a Romanian citizen, will be deported after serving his sentence. He will remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life and is barred from activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
