Paedophile Describes Prison Life as a "Shock"

Mohammad Khan, a 46-year-old father of two, has been in custody since March after being arrested for the third time for possessing child sexual abuse images.

Khan, who worked in the financial sector before his first conviction in 2016, has said that prison has been a "significant shock" and that he has struggled to adjust.

On Thursday (August 28), Khan appeared at the Old Bailey for sentencing. Prosecutor Obi Mgbokwere described the case, stating that police became aware of a Google Drive user who had uploaded 387 indecent images of children on January 23, 2023.

The user was identified as Khan, who was already a registered sex offender with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order prohibiting him from using such equipment and facilities.

Khan was arrested near his ex-partner's address in Wandsworth. Officers found a laptop and an iPhone at that address, as well as a laptop hidden under his pillow at his mother's house.

The devices recovered from Khan were investigated, and indecent images were found on a Dell laptop.

Khan admitted to 11 breaches of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and possessing over 1,000 indecent images of children.

He was first convicted of similar offences in 2016 and was given a community order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. In 2017, he received a suspended sentence for new but identical offenses. However, this was the first time he had been imprisoned, and his barrister stated that he was not enjoying it.

Khan's representative added that he felt deep shame at being in court again for these offenses.

Sentencing Khan, Judge Simon Farrell KC said, "These are such shocking images. They are truly horrific. Taking all matters into account, a custodial sentence is the only possible outcome."

Khan was sentenced to 19 months in prison and given a new 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
