Muftah Mohammed Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Schoolgirls in Derby

Muftah Mohammed, a 32-year-old man from Derby, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for sexually assaulting three schoolgirls and indecently exposing himself to others.

Derby Crown Court heard that on May 24th, Mohammed engaged in a series of disturbing acts while the city center was busy with shoppers. He entered a bank foyer, dropped his trousers, and exposed himself to staff and customers before walking out. He then proceeded to approach groups of people, including schoolgirls in uniform.

Mohammed assaulted three 16-year-old girls by slapping one on the buttocks and making an inappropriate comment, grabbing another's breast, and stroking a third girl's breasts while attempting to pull at her shirt. He also exposed himself to a group of schoolgirls, making lewd remarks.

Recorder Mary Prior KC, who presided over the case, condemned Mohammed's actions as "disgusting," stating that his victims should not have been subjected to such assaults in broad daylight. She emphasized the impact his behavior had on their ability to feel safe and move freely.

The prosecution highlighted that Mohammed's actions constituted "prowling behavior" as he actively approached groups of people rather than waiting for them in a fixed location. While none of the assaulted girls wished to provide victim impact statements, members of the group he exposed himself to expressed feelings of disgust and discomfort.

Mohammed pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of indecent exposure. Although he has a history of previous offenses, these are not related to sexual matters. His defense attorney attributed his actions to alcohol and drug use coupled with mental health issues, expressing remorse and regret on his client's behalf.

In addition to the prison sentence, Mohammed was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. Due to his immigration status, he is expected to be released within a month and will serve the remainder of his sentence on license in the UK.
