Wolverhampton Man Jailed for Child Sex Offences After Undercover Police Operation
A Wolverhampton man has been jailed for child sex offences following an investigation by undercover police who posed as a teenage girl online.
Acting on intelligence, officers initially contacted Nicholas Robinson on a social media platform earlier this year, presenting themselves as an adult. Robinson confessed to having a sexual interest in children and offered money for a camera in order to obtain explicit photos and videos of minors. He then sent videos of child abuse to the undercover officer.
In February, a second undercover officer interacted with Robinson, this time posing as a 13-year-old girl. Robinson, 35, was asked to perform a sexual act by the undercover officer.
Robinson, from Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to charges at an earlier hearing. He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on May 16 to three years in jail for four counts of child sex offences. These included distributing an indecent image of a child and attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child.
West Midlands Police Detective Constable Neil Cunnington said, "We aim to create an environment of disruption, fear, and apprehension among individuals who sexually abuse children online. Arresting and convicting offenders like Robinson is crucial to achieving this goal. If anyone has concerns about someone's online behavior or suspects they are grooming children, please contact us so we can investigate."
Last year, the force's Major Crime Unit's online undercover work led to the arrest of 73 predatory sexual offenders.
