Former Met Police officer who raped girl dies in prison.
Former Metropolitan Police Officer Dies in Prison After Being Convicted of Historic Sexual Offences
Paul Lamb, 74, was serving a 17-and-a-half-year prison sentence for 19 sexual offenses that occurred during the 1970s in London and the 1980s in Yorkshire. He died on May 27, 2022, just a year into his sentence.
Lamb was convicted in May 2021 of offenses including the rape of a girl under 16 in Islington during the 1970s, when he worked for the Metropolitan Police.
He later moved to East Yorkshire and ran a children's home for three years. During this time, he committed two more rapes and numerous indecent assaults.
A prison report revealed that Lamb was diagnosed with breast cancer months after his arrival at HMP Hull. His partner believed a mastectomy prevented the cancer's spread, but Lamb stopped taking prescribed medication due to concerns about side effects.
His cancer returned, and he died hours after being told he had less than 48 hours to live.
