Peter Bingham, 54, was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing two young girls.

Bingham's abuse of his first victim began when she was under the age of 12. The victim later revealed she had self-harmed in an attempt to destroy her body after the abuse, fearing she would be targeted by men again.

The court heard that Bingham's abuse of his first victim ended abruptly when she reached her mid-teens. He then turned his attention to a younger girl, who remembers being abused just before her ninth birthday.

In court, Bingham's first victim read a statement detailing the lasting impact of his abuse. She said she still struggles to accept kindness, fearing people might want something in return.

Bingham was found guilty of five sex offences following a trial in April. The prosecution described him as a "groomer" who had manipulated his first victim's mother into dismissing his behavior.

The judge at Mold Crown Court sentenced Bingham to a total of five years in prison.
