Convicted: 17/05/2021

ex-BBC producer & Serial sex offender.

A former BBC producer, condemned as a dangerous paedophile, attempted to trick a private school headteacher into allowing him to film schoolgirls at a Christmas concert.

Serial sex offender Peter Croasdale tried to deceive Monmouths Haberdashers into granting him permission to record a carol service. The 58-year-old presented a fake name to the school and attempted to charge then head Jennifer Phillips £450 for filming the performance.

Croasdale was sentenced to over four years in prison in 2009 for sexually abusing a young girl, taking an indecent photograph of a child, voyeurism, and possessing indecent photographs of children. When police apprehended the ex-Radio 4 producer for his recent crimes in Monmouthshire, they discovered disturbing child abuse images on his computer.

Prosecutor Claire Pickthall informed Cardiff Crown Court that Croasdale had been engaging in a business negotiation with the school, posing as Peter Alan. She stated, "They were deceived by this man who is intelligent. He deliberately hid his identity." However, his deception was soon exposed, leading to the involvement of the police.

Croasdale pleaded guilty to fraud, possessing indecent images of children, and possessing extreme pornography involving bestiality. His computer contained 15 category A indecent images of a child depicting rape, 28 at category B, and 63 at category C. These offenses occurred between January 16, 2016, and January 15, 2021.

Tom Roberts, acting as Croasdale's defense counsel, argued that there was a chance for his client's rehabilitation. However, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke stated, "You simply don't want to face up to the risks you pose to children." She classified him as a dangerous offender and sentenced him to an extended term of four years.

Croasdale, now residing on Woodgate Street in Bolton, will serve two years in prison followed by a two-year extended license period upon his release. He was previously given a suspended prison sentence in March after being caught leading a secret life in Gwent.

A court previously heard that Croasdale had left his home in Northern England to live with teacher Lesley Bagshaw in Monmouth. Due to his 2009 conviction, he was required to register as a sex offender and be subject to a sexual offences prevention order for life. However, he breached both orders by living with Ms Bagshaw, who had known him since sixth form. Croasdale admitted to being in breach of both orders, stating that it was a "calculated and deliberate breach." He was living a double life, unbeknownst to the police.

On January 15 of this year, officers visited an address in Monmouth where they found Croasdale living under the alias Peter Alan. Lesley Bagshaw's home was searched. Judge Lloyd-Clarke demanded an explanation from the prosecution as to why these matters were not addressed together.
