Peter Melville Jailed for Indecent Exposure to Two Children

Peter Melville, a repeat sex offender, was sentenced to 46 months in prison for indecently exposing himself to two young girls in Covingham last year.

Melville, 60, of Highland Road, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order following the incident. At approximately 2 pm on September 3, 2024, Melville approached the 12-year-old victims and made sexually explicit remarks before attempting to expose himself.

Police conducted CCTV and doorbell enquiries which led to Melville's identification. He was formerly known as Raymond Casson and has over ten previous convictions for sexual offences.

Firearms officers apprehended Melville near the M4 in Swindon at 6:30 pm, where he remained in custody. In victim impact statements read to the court, one of the girls expressed feeling unsafe and afraid to be alone after the incident. She stated, "He looked like an innocent, normal man when he walked past - I didn't think he was going to do something like that. I was crying and feeling terrified for a while." The other victim recounted how she kicked and banged on a door in an attempt to scare Melville away.
