Sex Offender Jailed for 12 Years in Huddersfield Child Sexual Exploitation Case

Rashid Iqbal (46) of Dryclough Road, Huddersfield was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Leeds Crown Court on August 24th after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl between the ages of 13-15.

The conviction was the latest in a long-running investigation, known as Operation Tendersea, which focuses on non-recent child sexual exploitation in the Huddersfield area.

The court heard that Iqbal sexually abused his victim between 2003 and 2005. He was found guilty of two counts of causing or inciting a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of indecency with a child under 14.

DCI Ian Thornes, of the Kirklees District Safeguarding Unit, praised the victim's courage in coming forward and commended the efforts of the police and CPS in bringing Iqbal to justice.

"Iqbal richly deserves the sentences given to him at court today for what was targeted and depraved sexual offending against a child," said DCI Thornes. "He took advantage of her vulnerability in the worst way."

Operation Tendersea continues to investigate and prosecute those responsible for child sexual exploitation in the Huddersfield area. Anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse is encouraged to contact the authorities for support and investigation.
