35-year-old man jailed for 19 years for rape of child under 13

A 35-year-old man has been jailed for 19 years at Liverpool Crown Court for the rape of a child under the age of 13. Richard Green, from the Tuebrook area, appeared before the court on Friday, February 25, charged with 15 counts including rape of a child under 13, assault by penetration, sexual assault and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Green was found guilty after continually denying his offending. Detective Constable Joanne Waldron expressed her "pleasure" at seeing Green jailed for a "considerable amount of time".

"Green continued to deny his offending meaning his victim was forced to endure a trial," said Detective Constable Waldron. "I am pleased that he will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for his actions."

"I would like to take this opportunity to praise his victim for their courage and dignity throughout the whole of this investigation and hope that by seeing him sent to prison will give them some sort of closure and allow them to move on with their lives knowing he cannot harm anyone else."

Detective Constable Waldron continued, "We are committed to protecting victims of sexual offences, and anyone who reports an incident to us will be safeguarded and supported throughout the investigation."

"Anyone that has been a victim of a similar sexual offence, is concerned for the safety of someone they know or suspects someone to be engaging in this criminal activity, should come forward and speak to us. We have a team of dedicated staff who will expertly and compassionately deal with your reports and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice."

"Time is no barrier to reporting offences and I would urge anyone who has been victim at any time to come forward and we will do everything we can to help and support them."
