Exeter Sex Offender Avoids Prison Sentence for Child Sexual Abuse Images

Robert Graham Barter, 37, of Stemson Avenue, Pinhoe, Exeter, has avoided a prison sentence after being caught with hundreds of child sexual abuse images, including many depicting the rape or torture of young children.

Barter appeared at Exeter Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and breaching a previous sexual offences prevention order dating back to 2011.

The court heard that Barter had collected these images over a five-year period. Police analysis revealed 101 images in category A, 677 images in category B, and 274 images in category C.

Barter was previously convicted of a sexual offense in 2011.

Despite the severity of the charges, the judge handed Barter a 32-week prison sentence, suspended for two years. He was also placed under a four-week curfew and subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting him from using any device capable of accessing the internet.

Furthermore, Barter is required to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period.
