Dangerous predator who groomed two teenagers decades apart.
Roy Coxhead, a Reading businessman, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually abusing two boys.
Coxhead, 66, targeted the "vulnerable" boys with money, cigarettes, alcohol, and cannabis before engaging in sexual activity with them. The first boy, who was 11 or 12 at the time, contracted a sexually transmitted infection from Coxhead after being abused.
Years later, Coxhead lured a second boy to his flat, where he sexually assaulted him. The boy's mother spoke of the devastating impact the abuse had on her family, stating they had to move due to fear and shame.
The first victim, now an adult, expressed relief that the ordeal was finally over. Coxhead was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual abuse following a two-week trial earlier this year.
Despite admitting to the abuse, Coxhead maintained his innocence, claiming he was a victim himself. He argued that he had been abused as a child and was seeking companionship, but the judge rejected this claim, calling him "dangerous" and a "manipulator."
The judge highlighted Coxhead's calculated and predatory behavior, noting how he used his wealth and status to groom the boys, exploiting their vulnerabilities and taking their innocence.
The second victim, who has special educational needs, was deeply affected by the abuse and had to leave his school placement. He also developed a cannabis addiction.
Coxhead will serve at least 12 years before becoming eligible for parole. He was found guilty of numerous charges, including indecency with a child, indecent assault, attempting to commit a serious sexual offense, perverting the course of justice, sexual activity with a child, and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
