Huntington Man Sentenced for Possessing Child Abuse Images

A Huntington man who downloaded indecent images of children for five years was sentenced at York Crown Court after pleading guilty to possessing child abuse material.

Roy Dean, 63, of Broome Close, Huntington, admitted to having over 100 illegal images on his computer, which he initially attempted to blame on others.

Prosecutor Patrick Palmer stated that Dean initially claimed other individuals had access to his computer, but later admitted that he was the sole user.

The court heard that Dean had downloaded the images over a period of five years, from 2015 to 2020, and that they included images of the most serious kind of sexual abuse.

Judge Simon Hickey sentenced Dean to an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, with conditions including 40 days of rehabilitation activities. Dean will also be placed on the sex offenders register and subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years, restricting his internet usage.

Judge Hickey addressed Dean, stating, "Until people like you stop looking at such images, the market in them continues to thrive."

Defense attorney Graham Parkin asserted that Dean had been working on addressing his sexual behavior since his arrest.
