Warehouse Worker Jailed for Rape
Russell Beatty, 28, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Teesside Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty of rape.
The court heard that the Middlesbrough man subjected the victim to "domination and violence," leaving her feeling afraid to leave her home.
In a victim impact statement, the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, described the profound impact the incident and subsequent investigation have had on her life.
"I feel nervous all the time," she said. "I feel trapped due to what he's put me through. The incident has had a dramatic impact on my life - I feel frightened and scared to leave my address. I have been suffering medical problems in relation to my heart and chest pains. I have been told that the issue I have had is due to stress and anxiety."
Despite maintaining his innocence, Beatty's defense attorney argued for leniency, highlighting his previous good character, his youth, and his positive behavior in prison. The court also learned of his stable employment and homeownership.
Judge Howard Crowson, in delivering the sentence, stated, "There was an act of sexual intercourse which you forced upon her. It was a selfish act committed for your pleasure alone."
Beatty, of Hills View Road, Eston, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment and issued with a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.
