Registered Sex Offender Said Mohamed Jailed for Failing to Notify Police of Address Change
A 32-year-old Northampton registered sex offender, Said Mohamed, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for failing to comply with the conditions of his registration.
Mohamed was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register (SOR) in 2021 following a conviction for the sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13. As part of his SOR requirements, he was obligated to notify police of any changes to his name or address within three days.
After serving a sentence for breaching a community order, Mohamed failed to inform Northamptonshire Police of his new address. He was arrested on January 7th and charged with failing to comply with SRO notifications. His case was committed to Northampton Crown Court where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.
Mohamed also received an additional 20-week concurrent sentence for harassment, related to a breach of a restraining order imposed in July 2023.
Detective Sergeant Will Corlett from the Force's MOSOVO Team emphasized the seriousness of Mohamed's offenses:
"Said Mohamed is rightly back in prison for his blatant disregard of the conditions imposed on him by the courts. These very strict notification requirements are in place to protect the public, which Mohamed is expected to abide by. His continued refusal to engage with either the police or other agencies clearly demonstrates that he thinks he is above the law. It is our duty to protect the most vulnerable people in our society from people like Mohamed, and we take the management of sex offenders extremely seriously."
Corlett concluded, "We closely monitor sex offenders and their movements, adopting an absolute zero-tolerance approach to situations like this. There is no room for manoeuvre. If a breach is identified, there are no second chances, and just like Mohamed – offenders will be sent to prison."
