Pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child.
A woman from Derby has spoken out about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Sam Rudge, who took her virginity at a New Year's Eve party when she was underage.
The victim, who was given alcohol before the incident, told the court that what Rudge did to her "did not feel right". She went to the police to report the abuse, but Rudge, now 29, denied the charges and only pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child on the second day of the trial.
In a powerful victim impact statement read by her father, the woman described how Rudge had "taken away her innocence and taken advantage of her naivety". She said that the abuse has left her with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic attacks.
The woman also said that her life has been "in limbo" since the incident and that she has constantly worried about facing her abuser in court. She said that Rudge "thought he had taken her power away from her, but he did not. I am much stronger now and I will make sure you never do this to another woman again."
Rudge, who has been diagnosed with autism, was sentenced to a two-year prison term, suspended for two years. He must also complete 175 hours of unpaid work, attend 55 rehabilitation sessions, and a 43-day sex offender treatment programme.
Judge Jonathan Bennett, who handed down the sentence, said that Rudge has "shown some remorse but I'm not actually convinced by that." He commended the victim for coming forward and telling the police about the abuse she suffered.
