Sayed Miah Sentenced for Rape of Teenage Girl

Sayed Miah Sentenced to 12 Years for Rape Committed in 2011

A 44-year-old man, Sayed Miah of Commercial Road, London, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl in Newton-le-Willows in 2011. The sentencing took place at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, February 20th, 2025.

Miah will also be required to sign the Sex Offender Register for life. The attack occurred when Miah was living in Newton-le-Willows and the victim was walking through an area known locally as "the dingle". Despite a thorough investigation at the time, no charges were brought due to insufficient evidence.

In 2021, Miah was arrested in London for an unrelated offense. His DNA sample taken during this arrest matched the DNA profile from the 2011 rape case. This led to his arrest and subsequent charge by Merseyside Police.

"I hope this sentencing shows that time is no barrier when we investigate crimes," said Detective Constable Alex Fowler of Merseyside Police. "14 years later, we have been able to prove Miah's despicable actions on that day."

Detective Constable Fowler also highlighted the bravery of the victim and the determination of the police in securing justice for her. "Thankfully a jury found him guilty and he will now spend a considerable amount of time in prison," added Fowler.

Merseyside Police remains committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and bringing perpetrators to justice.
