A man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a vulnerable woman in her own home.

Shahzaib Hassan, 26, pleaded guilty to attacking the victim in Dalrymple on December 21, 2023. He admitted pushing his hands between her body and arms and touching her breasts during the incident. An allegation that he also massaged her shoulders and arms, knowing she did not want this to happen, was dropped as part of a plea deal.

Sentencing was delayed for criminal justice social work reports and a risk assessment. During these proceedings, concerns were raised about Hassan's denials of responsibility in background reports, which the court deemed contradictory to his guilty plea. Despite initially expressing regret and apologizing to the court and the victim, Sheriff Shirley Foran noted a lack of remorse from Hassan.

Sheriff Foran ultimately sentenced Hassan to 36 weeks imprisonment, reduced from 40 weeks due to his guilty plea. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. The sheriff emphasized that this predatory behavior required a custodial sentence and highlighted the seriousness of assaulting someone in their own home when they are vulnerable.
