Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for Attempting to Meet 14-Year-Old Boy
A convicted sex offender has been jailed for four years and eight months after attempting to meet a 14-year-old boy at a train station in Birmingham. The boy, however, was a "decoy" created by a paedophile hunters group.
Simon Burrin, 42, of Court Lane, Erdington, had sent naked photos to the decoy and suggested they meet at a hotel in Winchester. He was arrested after the vigilante group reported the incident to police.
During the investigation, Burrin admitted to sending the photos and attempting to meet the boy. He also acknowledged that he had a history of offending, having been previously sentenced to two years and four months for allowing a 14-year-old boy he met on a gay dating site to stay with him.
Judge Simon Drew KC, sentencing Burrin, stated that his actions were "extremely dangerous" and that his "principle purpose of making contact with that child was to engage in sexual activity."
The judge also extended the period Burrin would remain on licence by four years.
