Man's Sentence Doubled for Sex Offenses Against Child
A man from near Worksop, Thomas Timpson (36) of Kirton, Ollerton, has had his sentence doubled after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences against a child. The case was referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Timpson, who denied the allegations, was convicted following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court. He was originally sentenced to three years in prison. Over a period of five to six months, he engaged in sexual activity with his 15-year-old victim and bought her gifts.
Timpson was found guilty of six counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of sexual communication with a child, and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181, added to the sex offender's register, and made subject to a Restraining Order for 10 years.
Following the sentencing on January 20th, the case was referred to the Court of Appeal. On April 4th, 2023, the court found the original sentence to be unduly lenient and increased Timpson's prison sentence to six years.
Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP stated: "Despite denying the allegations, the court found that Thomas Timpson had groomed his underage victim and took full advantage of her. This was a truly appalling breach of trust and I welcome the court imposing an increased custodial sentence on Thomas Timpson recognizing the heinous nature of his crimes."
Detective Sergeant James Robinson of Nottinghamshire Police said at the time: "Timson's behaviour was manipulative and predatory. He knew exactly what he was doing."
