Male predator who dressed as a woman to sexually abuse a 20-year-old man.
Predator Jailed for 10 Years for Sexually Abusing Drunk Man
Wayne Rogers, 48, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for sexually assaulting a 20-year-old man in Bishop's Stortford. Rogers, a hairdresser, was dressed as a woman, wearing a wig and fake breasts, when he picked up the victim, who was heavily intoxicated, from the town center.
The court heard that Rogers drove the victim to a secluded location and sexually assaulted him, part of which he videoed. He was found guilty by a jury last September of assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
Judge Francis Sheridan said Rogers targeted the victim because he was drunk and vulnerable. "He was chosen by you because he was intoxicated and you could see he was intoxicated," Sheridan said. "You could see he was vulnerable. You sexually abused him for your own sexual excitement and satisfaction."
This was not Rogers' first encounter with the law. In 2022, he was acquitted in three separate trials involving allegations of sexual assault against other men. The prosecution argued that Rogers used his female disguise to deceive men and take advantage of them while they were drunk.
The victim in this case said he felt sad and numb when he was alone with his thoughts. "When I am not distracted and am alone with my thoughts, I feel sad or numb," he said in a personal statement.
Police found two blonde wigs and a pair of fake breasts at Rogers' home. A mobile phone containing an image of the victim being fondled by Rogers was also found. The phone's internet history included searches related to sexual encounters with drunk people.
Rogers must now register as a sex offender for life and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.
