Convicted sex offender sent back to prison by magistrates again.

Convicted Sex Offender Sent Back to Prison After Misunderstanding Registration Requirement

Wilfred Mosira, 37, of Oxford, was released from HMP Bullingdon on June 23 after serving a sentence. As a registered sex offender, he was legally obligated to notify the police of his new address within three days of moving.

However, Mosira mistakenly believed that the three-day deadline referred to working days, not calendar days. He thought he had until the following Wednesday to register at the police station, as he was released on a Friday.

On Tuesday, June 27, Mosira became involved in an altercation with a staff member at a Co-op in Abingdon after his bank card was declined. The prosecution alleged that Mosira "pushed" the store assistant. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

Mosira appeared before Oxford Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 29, where he pleaded guilty to breach of sex offender notification requirements and common assault. The court sentenced him to four weeks in prison, citing his previous conviction for the same offense earlier this year.

The presiding magistrate, Jon Kearsey, noted that Mosira had already received a one-month prison sentence for a similar violation. In addition to his imprisonment, Mosira was ordered to pay £50 in compensation.
